NAUGATUCK — Mrs. Dora A. (Gardiner) Miller, 80, of Naugatuck passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of Carl R. Miller Jr.
Dora was born May 29, 1935 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Bertram and Lydia (Sexton) Gardiner.
Prior to her retirement in 2001, Dora was an executive secretary having worked for numerous companies.
Dora was a huge UConn women’s basketball fan and she also enjoyed watching the WNBA. She loved nature, animals and especially bird watching. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with her adored grandchildren.
Dora was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Plymouth for 70 years and served as chairperson for the educational and congregational care committees, and was also an officer for the Fellowship Fund.
She will be missed by her daughters; Elaine M. Fiermonte and her husband, Wayne, Cheryl A. Miller, Linda L. Miller and her spouse, Dawn Hughes, son; Dennis H. Miller and his wife, Michele; grandchildren, Carla, Craig and Marc Fiermonte, Carl and Jenna Miller; great-grandchildren; Damien and Adrian Navarro, Alanna and Chloey Fiermonte and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Harold and William Gardiner.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 9 to 11 a.m. with services immediately following from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect. Services will be conducted by Pastor Christopher Drew. Burial will follow at New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury.
