NAUGATUCK — Mr. Donald Richard Phillips, 79, of Naugatuck, formerly of Ormond Beach, Fla. passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2014 in the VITAS Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of the late Leigh (Sirois) Phillips.

Mr. Phillips was born in Derby on Jan. 15, 1935, a son to the late Herman and Veronica (O’Neil) Phillips. He was retired after working for 36 years in the gatehouse at the Uniroyal Inc. Chemical Division in Naugatuck and was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Naugatuck where he served as an usher and was a member of the choir for many years.

Mr. Phillips proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Phillips is survived by a son, Kenneth Phillips and his wife, Lisa, of Naugatuck; a daughter, Stacie L. Phillips and her wife, Melissa Duhaime, of Southington; a brother, Eugene Phillips of Vernon; two grandsons, Bryan Phillips and Brett Phillips and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two grandsons, Keith Brian Phillips and Shaun Michael Phillips and a brother, Ed Phillips.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014 at 10:15 a.m. from Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect to St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck for a mass at 11 a.m. Burial with full military honors will be in St. James Cemetery in Naugatuck. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Oct. 17, 2014 from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014 from 9 to 10 a.m. The Naugatuck Veterans Council will assemble at the funeral home on Friday evening at 7:15 p.m.
