NAUGATUCK — Daniel Vargas, 83, of Naugatuck, died peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 14. He was born on July 29, 1932 in Manhattan, N.Y.

He grew up in the Bronx where he spent most of his childhood. After graduating from New York schools he joined the United States Navy where he worked as an engineer. He was an athlete who played baseball for his Naval team as a catcher. He was an avid sports fan and especially a fan of all New York sports teams. He was a fanatic of British films and sitcoms. He had a loving affection for animals, especially his dogs Arthur and Chelsea who will deeply miss him.

He was predeceased by his parents, Daniel Sr. Vargas and Maria Zingotita. He leaves his caregiver and wife, Flor; two sons, Daniel Philip Vargas and Brian Vargas; two daughters, Suzanne Vargas and Michelle V. Chasin; and son-in-law, Glen Chasin; former daughter-in-law, Rose DeSantis; four beautiful grandchildren, Benjamin and Jessica Chasin, Brian and Sarah Vargas; three brothers, Louis and wife Marie, John and wife Terry, Manny and wife Carmen, and several wonderful nephews and nieces.

Private funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. The Prospect Memorial Funeral Home, 72 Waterbury Road, Prospect is in charge of arrangements.
