Daniel Francis Scullin

PENSACOLA, Fla. — Daniel Francis Scullin, 73, died Dec. 4, 2016, in Pensacola, Fla., after a short illness. He was born in Waterbury, Conn., Jan. 16, 1943, son of the late James J. and Evangeline (Furtado) Scullin. Paternal grandparents were Daniel and Annie (Fitzgerald) Scullin. Maternal grandparents were Joseph and Evangeline (Jordan) Furtado.

Daniel was a graduate of Naugatuck High School and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in the School of Business Administration from the University of Connecticut in 1964. After completing Officer’s Candidate School, he achieved the rank of captain in the United States Air Force before being honorably discharged in 1969. Dan then operated a private business and was involved in the business forms industry before establishing himself at the Pensacola Hardware Store, which he enjoyed for many years. He was a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan and loved UConn basketball.

Dan is survived by his brother, James J. Jr. and his son, James J. III; his sisters, Patricia Campbell, her husband, Walter, and their children, Scott, Jeannie Barletta, Craig, Mark, and Doug; Janet Blinstrub, her husband, Gary, and their children Gregory and Erika; Deborah Scullin and her partner, Elwood Caldwell; his cousin, Steven Furtado, and the children of Dan’s nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his former wife, Hannelore Steinmann, and his good friend since grammar school, Peter Zguzenski.

Friends may join the family on Wednesday, Dec. 14, at the Waters and Hibbert Funeral Home, 124 W. Gregory St., Pensacola, Fla., to celebrate his life.
