NAUGATUCK — Caroline (Mala) Pereira, 81, of Naugatuck, the widow of Julio DaSilva Pereira, died peacefully Monday, Dec. 29 at Beacon Brook Health Center.
Caroline was born September 9, 1933 in Murtosa, Portugal a daughter of the late Joaquim and Maria (Carinha) Mala and had lived all of her life in Naugatuck. Caroline worked in the footwear division of Uniroyal, Inc. for over 25 years and then worked for 17 years for Hospital Marketing Systems. Caroline was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Clube Uniao Portuguesa, the Naugatuck Women’s Club and the AARP, #495, and she was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church.
Caroline is survived by her son, Jose J. Pereira and his wife, Carroll A. Pereira, of Naugatuck; her son, Al Pereira and his wife, Diane Pereira, of Prospect and her son, Manny Pereira and his wife, Mary C. Pereira, of Naugatuck; her sister, Mary C. Santos of Middlebury, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Caroline was predeceased by her brother, Alfred R. Mala.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Jan. 2, 2015 at 9 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours are Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave.
