Carol Ann Nalewaik

Carol Ann Nalewaik, 79, of Keswick, Va. and Sun City Anthem, Henderson, Nev., died on Wednesday, the 22nd of November 2017 at UVA hospital, with her husband of 53 years at her side. She had been coping with ovarian cancer for over three years and died of multiple medical complications. Even so, she smiled to the end.

Born Sept. 2, 1938 in Waterbury, Conn. She was the only child of Al and Sophie Kolakowski.

Carol Ann (also known as “Pooch” due to her lifelong fondness of dogs) lived an interesting global life, residing in nine states, Europe, North Africa, South America and the Indian subcontinent. Because of her science background she often was sought after as a secondary school teacher wherever she domiciled.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry, who was her first date in 1955, and her only daughter, Alexia. She was able to live with quality of life for the last three years because of the remarkable medical care she received at UVA Medical Center and Physicians Group in Charlottesville. We cannot thank these dozens of doctors and nurses enough.

A Memorial Mass will be held in the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church at UVA in Charlottesville, Va. on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 1 p.m. Her ashes will be placed in the St. Vincent Ferrer Columbarium in the adjacent Priory directly after Mass.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider donating to The Little Sisters of the Poor or the church building fund at St. Thomas Aquinas in her name.
