NAUGATUCK — Candida M. Fernandes, 93, widow of Antonio Fernandes and widow of Joao Manuel Figueiredo Rodrigues, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital VITAS unit surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Fernandes was born in Paradela De Monforte, Portugal on June 6, 1922, daughter of the late Antonio and Teresa De Jesus (Lazaro) Fernandes. She was a longtime Naugatuck resident and retired from Naugatuck Glass. She dedicated her life caring for her children, grandchildren and great–grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church.
She leaves her son, Luciano Rodrigues and his wife, Maria Adelaide; her daughter, Gloria Santos and her husband, Albino; her daughter-in-law, Natividade Pires, all of Naugatuck; her grandchildren, Carlos Santos, Pedro Pires, Lucy Gonzalez, Rosa Ramalhete, David Pires, and Nancy Ward; eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Fernandes was predeceased by her son, Arlindo Pires; her brother, Armando Fernandes; and her two sisters, Conceicao Pereira and Maria Amelia Fernandes.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 27, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin St., Waterbury. Those attending are asked to please meet at the church at 10:45 a.m. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck.
