Obituary: Bertha (Solberg) Thyren

SOUTHBURY — Bertha (Solberg) Thyren, 97, passed away Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015 at the Lutheran Home of Southbury. She was the wife of the late Erling T. Thyren who passed away in 1992.

Bertha was born in Oxford, the daughter of the late Carl and Louisa (Detlefsen) Solberg. She was born and raised on a farm, a true country girl with many talents. Poetry and singing were two of her passions. She also enjoyed sharing visits with family and friends at many family gatherings. She loved preparing delicious meals for the occasions, and she was well known for her baked goods.

As a graduate of Naugatuck High School, she also sang in the school’s a capella choir. Bertha received a two-year certificate at Post Secretarial School and worked as a secretary until she married. Her love and enjoyment of family and friends gave meaning to her life as a homemaker.

Bertha is survived by her three daughters, Patricia A. Robinson and her husband, Richard, Nancy Thyren, Susan Thyren; her granddaughter, Alicia Robinson; her sister-in-law, Sophia Solberg as well as several nieces and nephews.

Bertha’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Lutheran Home of Southbury for the excellent care and compassion shown to her and her family. Also, a special thank you to Avery Ogilvie for the friendship, kindness and laughter she provided Bertha during her many years of home care.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at 10 a.m. at the Alderson-Ford Funeral Home of Naugatuck, 201 Meadow St. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Watertown. There are no calling hours.
