WATERBURY — Antonio J. Lucas, 88, husband of Joaquina (Moura) Lucas passed away on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015 at his home peacefully surrounded by his family.

Mr. Lucas was born in Portugal on Aug. 15, 1927, son of the late Antonio and Maria Rosa (Da Aira) Lucas. He was a longtime Naugatuck and Waterbury resident, and retired from T and M Masonary in Torrington. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family.

Besides his wife, Antonio is survived by his children, Fernando Lucas and his wife, Idalina, of Prospect, Maria Gloria Moura and her husband, Joao, of Waterbury, Maria Rosa Martins and her husband, Jose, of Naugatuck, Maria Connie Seguro and her husband, Domingos, and Maria Jackie Martins and her husband, Francisco, all of Ludlow, Mass., Maria Theresa Portela and her husband, Alberto, of Bridgeport, and Maria Ines Machado and her husband, Alipio, of Waterbury; a daughter-in-law Otilia Lucas; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Liborio Lucas, his daughter, Maria Lucia Lucas and his brother, John Lucas.

A special thank you to his granddaughters who spent every day with Antonio for the past two months. Also, a thank you Dr. Ihsann Jabbour and his assistant Arminda, and Dr. Anamiko Katoch and her staff at the Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, and VITAS for all of their support.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church. Burial will be in Gralhos, Montalegre, Portugal. Calling hours will be held at the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald-Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck on Wednesday morning from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.
