NAUGATUCK — Alfred J. Marchlewski, 86, of Naugatuck, passed away on Jan. 7, 2016 at Saint Mary’s Hospital (VITAS). He was the husband of Dolores (Rimkoski) Marchlewski.

Alfred was born in Union City, Conn. on April 21,1929, the son of Sylvester C. and Lillian (Wolowski) Marchlewski. He lived in Naugatuck his entire life. He was a master sergeant with Naugatuck’s own Company F, 102d Infantry, during the Korean War.

He received his degree in mechanical engineering from the University of New Haven, and a bachelor’s degree in business from Charter Oak College of Hartford, Conn. He was a graduate of the University of New Haven “School of Executive Development.”

Alfred completed specialized studies at Lehigh University, Michigan State University, the New Jersey Institute of Technology, University of Connecticut and Hartford Graduate Center.

Mr. Marchlewski was the author of several technical articles and was a member of the teaching staff of the Fairfield University Business Bureau. He was a member of the Waterbury State Technical College Regional Advisory Council and the Mechanical Technology Advisory Committee.

He was a registered professional engineer in the state of Connecticut, a member of the Connecticut Society of Professional Engineers and a nationally certified plant engineer.

In 1972, he was elected “Plant Engineer of the Year” by the Central Connecticut Chapter of the American Institute of Plant Engineers. In 1986 he was awarded the prestigious “Fellow Award” by the National Society of the American Institute of Plant Engineers. This designation recognized exemplary service to A.I.P.E. and the plant engineering profession.

He joined MRM Industries, a subsidiary of Insilco Corp. of Meriden, Conn. in 1972. In 1980, he was promoted to vice president of manufacturing and engineering. He was a member of the Insilco Corp. and Management Services Consulting Group.

In 1988, he joined Engineered Sinterings & Plastics Inc. of Watertown, Conn. He retired as executive vice president in 1998, and continued his employment with Engineered Sinterings & Plastics part time in the capacity of staff consultant.

Alfred served on the Borough Economics Development Commission, the Water Pollution Control Board and St. Hedwig’s Parish Council and Finance Committee.

He is survived by his wife Dolores; his daughter-in-law Nicole Marchlewski and his son-in-law Robert Komacki; three grandchildren, Jessica, Brooke, Zachary; and several nieces and nephews.

Alfred was predeceased by his son Douglas A. Marchlewski; a daughter, Janet L. Komacki; two brothers, Edwin C. March and Leonard J. March.

The funeral was held Monday, Jan. 11, 2016 from Naugatuck Valley Memorial Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck, to St. Hedwig’s Church, 32 Golden Hill St., Naugatuck, CT 06770, for a Mass. Burial followed in St. James Cemetery.
