NAUGATUCK — A man and a woman involved in a Saturday night head-on collision on Route 8 remained at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury late Monday with no change in their conditions.
Sara Chmielewski, 22, of 108 Sunnybank Ave., Stratford, was a passenger in a 2008 Honda Accord traveling south. The car was hit by a 2003 Chevrolet van, which Edmundo Mendieta, 35, of 271 Lombard St., New Haven, was driving in the wrong direction just north of Exit 27.
Chmielewski was still in critical condition Monday night, while Mendieta remained stable, according to a nursing supervisor at the hospital.
The driver of the Accord, 24-year-old William J. Baer Jr. of 410 Burton Road, Beacon Falls, died following the accident.
