NHS Alumni Association to give out patriotism awards


NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck High School Alumni Association will honor six people next weekend with the Robert L. Genovese Patriotism Award.

The award is given to individuals for their outstanding devotion and service to their town, state and country. This year’s recipients are: Ronald E. Fischer, Eva Beth Kloc, Robert Juliano, William Detlefsen, Joseph B. Knowles and Edward J. Kazimir. Knowles and Kazimir are being honored posthumously.

The award is named after Robert L. Genovese, a member of the NHS Class of 1960 and a Vietnam War veteran. Genovese, a U.S. Air Force veteran, is a member of the Connecticut Veterans Hall of Fame.

The awards will be presented during the association’s annual flag ceremony and presentation Nov. 3 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at American Legion Post 17, 21 Cedar St. A ziti dinner will follow the ceremony. Tickets are $10. For information or tickets, call Kevin Knowles at 203-729-5463.
