Pair of teens

arrested on

assault charges

NAUGATUCK — Naugatuck Police arrested two 18-year-olds from the borough after they assaulted two younger teenagers and their mother.

Borough police received a walk-in complaint on Jan. 31 at 3:48 p.m. regarding an assault that just occurred on 16-year-old and 17-year-old on Ward Street.

Through an investigation, police determined that Carmine Navarra, 18, drove to a residence on Ward Street and began asking a mother for her two juvenile children. Navarra then approached the home with a baseball bat.

Soon after a physical altercation took place between Navarra and one of the juveniles which led to the mother and the other juvenile to try to grab the baseball bat from Navarra. During this time, another vehicle arrived and another male teenager, John Bento, got out of the vehicle and got into the altercation. The juveniles and their mother were treated for injuries by EMS.

Navarra was held on a $25,000 surety bond and charged with assault in the second-degree, assault in the third-degree and breach of peace. Bento was held on a $10,000 surety bond and charged with assault in the third-degree. Both 18-year-olds were scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Feb. 1.

Election complaint against Prospect GOP dismissed

PROSPECT — The state Elections Enforcement Commission has officially dismissed a complaint that was filed against Prospect Republican Town Committee.

Prospect Republican Town Committee Chairman announced on Jan. 19 that the SEEC has finished its investigation and found no wrongdoing from a complaint initiated by the Prospect Democratic Town Committee in 2021, according to a Prospect Republican Town Committee press release

The complaint was filed by then-Democratic Town Committee Chairman John Schwarzkopf in October 2021.

The complaint stated that Prospect Republican candidate and now Prospect Town Council member Stanley Pilat failed to register properly prior to the municipal election that year.

The SEEC concluded in a two-page decision, that any expenditures that were made to promote Pilat’s write-in candidacy by PRTC were made based on him being a member of the town committee-funded slate. His status as a write-in candidate, regarding campaign financing, is not relevant. The SEEC officially dismissed the complaint in Sept. of 2022.
