A swearing-in ceremony will be held Friday evening at the home of John “Jack” Betkoski III for Beacon Falls officials elected Nov. 5.

It starts at 7:30 p.m. at 118 Munson Road. All elected officials whose term starts Monday are invited to attend, said former First Selectman Susan Ann Cable, who will be performing some of the swearing-in duties.

Following the ceremony, there will be a gathering with refreshments. It is open to the public.

Cable and Betkoski are siblings of Selectman-elect Peter Betkoski, a Democrat.

Newly elected officials in Prospect will be sworn in Friday at Community School.

The ceremony starts at 1 p.m. All residents are invited to attend.

Town Hall will be closed from 12:30 to 2 p.m. on Friday, Mayor Robert Chatfield said.

The terms of office don’t start until 8 p.m. Friday. Children at the school will watch the proceedings as a lesson in civic government, Chatfield said.

  1. No sour grapes at all. Those who were not invited were sworn in just fine. Only reason mentioned in the 1st place is simply because so many liked to state “facts” over the last several months.

  2. I don’t see this as sour grapes but simply pointing out the hypocrisy of the Democrats. They criticized the outgoing administration many times over for not being more transparent, they promised to bring a new level of transparency to Beacon Falls, and then they break that campaign promise before getting sworn into office. Voters don’t like hypocrites, and trust once lost is difficult to regain. All concerned please take note.

  3. LOL @ these trolls. Is this the new angle? Sounds like sour grapes to me, but if it makes you sleep better…..

Questioning ‘open door policy”? The out going administration really understood this concept well. As noted in the election results.

  4. This does seem to be an odd place to begin one’s term as First Selectman. I would think such a “public office” would change hands in a public place, like the steps (ok, ramp) of Town Hall, the Assembly Room, or the Senior Center or, the Fire House, or (heaven forbid) the front yard of the property we got stuck with on Wolfe Avenue.

The location chosen doesn’t seem to do anything to “unite” the town.

  5. Just to clarify, not all that were elected were invited and some of them that were invited were at the last minute and they were already sworn in by then 1st Selectmen Smith because they were never given the courtesy to be told in advance of this event.

I remember when I was 1st sworn in on the BOF 6 years ago. Both parties were there and pretty much everyone was done at the same time. Made for a nice town event were family could see etc. I hope this is not the prelude of things to come.
