High School Principal Fran Serratore garnered approval from the board to hire a new math teacher mid-way through the year. Students struggling with math need the new teacher to help teach foundations while increasing the rigor of the curriculum, Serratore said.
“We need to make sure our high school students are prepared to get to college,” said Donovan.
The new teacher would be funded through an unexpected surplus in the unemployment budget, but several board members expressed concern about how the position would be funded in the future.
The high school would like to hire four additional teachers, but the funding is not available at this time.
