NAUGATUCK — Deputy Police Chief Joshua Bernegger and the borough have agreed on a new, two-year contract.

The contract is retroactive to July 1 and runs through June 30, 2020.

Bernegger will get 2 percent raises each year of the deal. This fiscal year, his salary increased to $110,860. It will increase to $113,077 in the second year of the contract.

The contract also offers Bernegger a high deductible health plan with an annual $2,000/$4,000 deductible.

Under the contract, Bernegger also receives a “suitable vehicle” for business and personal use, equipment and uniforms, and reimbursement for expenses associated with training and professional development.

Mayor N. Warren “Pete” Hess said he felt the contract was fair for the borough and Bernegger.

Bernegger has worked at the Naugatuck Police Department for 21 years and became deputy police chief in 2010.

Bernegger said he is looking forward to continue “working with the citizens and professional men and women of the Naugatuck Police Department to keep Naugatuck a safe community.”
