NAUGATUCK – A new baseball field is in the works for local players.
The Parks and Recreation Commission voted Tuesday to move forward with plans for a full-sized baseball field at Apple Hill Estates housing development.
The commission decided to use the space for baseball after it was deemed too valuable for a dog park and not big enough for a football field.
If all goes well, the commission hopes to start site work on the new field in about a year and a half.
The commission decided to apply for lights, a bathroom, and playground for the park, even though they don’t currently have funding for these amenities.
“Why don’t we shoot for the stars and put everything into it?” said Commission Chair Pat Wagner.
If Parks and Recreation gets approval for these additions from the planning and zoning commissions, The Parks and Recreation Commissions can always add them when they have some extra cash in the future, the commission reasoned.
The park would serve junior and senior Babe Ruth and Legion teams as well as the high school and traveling teams.
