NAUGATUCK — The borough’s “Eat Local, Win Local — Keep Naugy Strong” contest gave out more than $1,300 worth of gift certificates from local restaurants during the second round of the contest.

The contest, which is run together with the Naugatuck Chamber of Commerce and the Naugatuck Economic Development Corporation, is designed to support and promote local restaurants. People order food at a participating restaurant and submit the receipt to be entered into a drawing for a gift certificate from one of the restaurants.

The second round of the contest, which ended Jan. 15, featured 27 restaurants. Fifty-two gift cards were given out, totaling $1,361. There were 47 winners overall because some gift cards were given out together due to the amount of the cards.

Borough officials are hoping to run the contest again in June.
