About 43 percent of Naugatuck is still without power after Connecticut Light and Power crews worked all day to restore power to certain areas, including along Rubber Avenue and the Mountview Plaza, Mayor Robert Mezzo reported on his blog. That is down from a high of 95 percent power outages after Saturday’s snow storm.
Power is being restored on portions of New Haven Road, possibly down to the Wal-Mart, and on Spring Street ending at the police station, Fire Chief Ken Hanks said.
All roads blocked by fallen trees should be re-opened by the end of the day, but some blocked by downed wires are expected to remain closed today, Hanks said.
Mezzo wrote that borough residents may bring downed trees, branches and other yard debris to the Naugatuck Heights property behind the police station at 211 Spring Street, beginning Wednesday from 8:00 a.m. Public Works staff will open the facility until from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Until Nov. 10, including weekends, Mezzo wrote.
Mezzo reported that the Valley Health District strongly advises all residents living in the Idlewood Mobil Home Park on Shadduck Road to boil all water before drinking and/or cooking.
Naugatuck Schools will be closed tomorrow. Multiple schools, including Naugatuck High School, remain without power, and Andrew Avenue Elementary School and City Hill Middle School are being used tonight as shelters.
