Naugatuck and Region 16 schools will be closed again on Wednesday due to the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.

“Despite efforts to clear all downed trees and wires from numerous locations throughout the borough today, there are still several locations that could present hazardous conditions for walkers and school buses,” Naugatuck Mayor Robert Mezzo wrote in a blog post announcing that borough schools will be closed.

Mezzo said the borough is reliant on Connecticut Light & Power to de-energize and remove dangerous lines before crews can clear trees.

There will be some sport practices held and athletes are to refer to their coaches for information.

Region 16 schools are closed as well due to a power outage in Oxford. A notice posted on the district’s website stated the source of the power to the pumps that provide water to Woodland Regional High School comes from Oxford. The power to that section of Oxford is not expected to be restored until sometime on Wednesday, the notice stated.

Since the high school will have no water schools in Beacon Falls and Prospect will be closed.

Although schools are closed, trick or treating will go on in Naugatuck, Beacon Falls, and Prospect.

Mezzo urged parents to use their own discretion and exercise a heightened sense of caution and oversight while their children are trick or treating.

Prospect Mayor Robert Chatfield is asking for children to be off the streets by 8 p.m.

Beacon Falls First Selectman Gerard Smith said trick or treating is on for Halloween at the discretion of parents.
