NAUGATUCK — Police say a traffic stop led to the arrest of a Waterbury man who had fentanyl and crack on him when officers pulled a car over he was riding in late Friday night.

Police said an officer stopped a 2020 Nissan Altima for a moving violation in the area of Union City Road and Gail Drive at about 11:30 p.m. The passenger, Demetrius Dolorian Keels, 22, of Waterbury, had 55 bags of fentanyl totaling 17 grams, 13 grams of crack and $304 at the time, according to police. Police estimated the combined street value of the fentanyl and crack to be $500.

Police seized the drugs and cash, and charged Keels with sale of illegal drugs and possession of a controlled substance. He was released after posting a $20,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Jan. 13.

Police said the driver, Sharef Mahan, 23, of Waterbury, had less than a half of an ounce of marijuana on him and was driving with a suspended license. Police issued him a misdemeanor summons to appear in court.
