NAUGATUCK — A fugitive wanted for allegedly sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl in the borough has been arrested in Georgia.
Naugatuck detectives obtained information Monday that Jamel Young, 53, was staying at a home in Brunswick, Ga. Borough detectives immediately requested assistance from Brunswick police, who found Young and arrested him without incident. He had presented a Pennsylvania driver’s license to officers, Naugatuck police said.
“We would like to thank the Brunswick Police Department and the FBI New Haven for their assistance in locating and arresting Young,” Naugatuck police stated in a news release.
An arrest warrant was issued for Young charging him with first-degree sexual assault, first-degree attempted sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor. The warrant included nationwide extradition and a $750,000 bond.
Young remains in custody in Georgia.
He will be extradited to Connecticut at a later date.
