Man arrested for running over elderly victim

NAUGATUCK — Borough police have arrested a man Dec. 14 soon after he ran over a person while intoxicated.

A 63-year old man was run over by a car around 4:30 p.m. within the confines of the commuter parking located on Cross Street which is about 1/8 of a mile off of Exit 25 from Route 8.

Naugatuck Public Information Officer Danielle Durette said the man was transported to a local hospital where he remained in stable condition.

The elderly victim sustained non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Shortly after police arrived at the scene, they arrested 64-year old William McGilll and charged him with driving under the influence. McGill was operating a blue Nissan Sentra.

Borough police were not able to release where the suspect and victim were originally from as of press time. Police also didn’t comment  if there were any witnesses at the scene. There are no cameras in the area.

McGill is scheduled to be arraigned at Waterbury Superior Court on Jan. 12.
