NAUGATUCK — Charles Edward “Jack” Rodman, 90, widower of Mary Elizabeth Rodman, died peacefully at his home on Aug. 18, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, in Naugatuck.
Charles was born in Shamokin, Pa., on May 23, 1934, son of the late Mabel A. (Davies) Rodman and Marlin L. Rodman. Charles and his family moved from Pennsylvania to Naugatuck in the summer of 1943. Charles attended Central Avenue Grammar School, Naugatuck High School and Post Junior College.
Charles was a veteran of the Korean War, proudly serving in the United States Navy aboard the USS Hancock CVA-19 from June, 1951 until May, 1955.
Charles began his career with the United States Postal Service in June of 1959, retiring in October 1992. Charles served as the postmaster of the Naugatuck Post Office from March 1980 until his retirement.
Charles was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Elaine Matt and her husband Richard; son Carl Rodman and his wife Kristen, son Michael Rodman and his wife Lisa. Charles also leaves behind his nine grandchildren, Katie, Anton and Marcus Matt, Kelsey and Allison Rodman, Luciana Rose, Michael, Charles, and Henry Rodman. Charles also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews and in-laws.
Charles was predeceased in 2020 by his wife of 60 years Mary; his parents; and his sister Lois Lukeski.
A Mass of Christian Burial was to be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 26, 2024, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 318 Church St., Naugatuck. Those attending were kindly asked to meet at church. There were no calling hours and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck.
