WATERBURY – Antonio E. Sousa, age 98 of Waterbury, passed away peacefully Friday, July 12, 2024, at Beacon Brook in Naugatuck. He was the beloved widower of Maria Arlete Freitas Gomes Sousa.
Antonio was born Sept. 30, 1925 in Bragado, Portugal, a son of the late Eduardo and Maria Amelia (Sousa) Sousa. Before coming to the United States in 1966, he served in the Portuguese Armed Forces. Antonio was the chief operating officer at Cabanelas Transportation Co. (Vila Real, Portugal) for many years.
Upon arriving in the Waterbury, Antonio had worked at the former Sealy Mattress in Oakville for many years. He was a member of the Portuguese Sports Club in Waterbury, and a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church.
He leaves his sons Antonio O. Sousa and his wife Robin, of Woodbury, Jose F. Sousa and his wife Ana Paula, of Prospect; his grandchildren Megan, Anthony, Sonia, Maribella and Gabriel Sousa; as well as his sisters Aida and Laura Silva, and a half-sister Silvia De Giacomo.
Funeral was to be Tuesday, July 16, at 10:30 a.m. from Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, to our Lady of Fatima Church to celebrate Mass at 11:30 a.m. Burial was to follow at All Saints Cemetery. Calling hours were to be Tuesday morning, July 16, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
