PROSPECT — Long River Middle School students unveiled the school’s “Be Kind” mural during a brief ceremony May 25.

Students in the school’s “Kindness Krew” built the mural, which was fired in the school’s kiln and now hangs in the main hallway, as part of the Ben’s Bell project to help spread kindness. Ben’s Bells, a nonprofit organization, works to inspire, educate and motivate people to realize the impact of intentional kindness.

Anna Nichols, who is now in eighth grade, wrote a letter in sixth grade requesting that the Region 16 school district bring the Ben’s Bell program to Long River. The program started this year. The school’s parent-teacher organization helped fund the initiative, which is led by school counselor Bethany Didato.
