HARTFORD — The Connecticut Board of Medical Examiners today suspended the license of Dr. Carl Schiano, who practiced in Naugatuck before closing his practice unexpectedly last fall.
Schiano is accused of failing to arrange continued care and lying to patients. He lived with two of his patients between October and January, whom he owes $3,000, according to the Department of Public Health. He also stole from them and left various patients’ medical records unsecured in their basement, according to the department.
The medical board will hold a March 1 hearing.

HARTFORD — The Connecticut Medical Examining Board will consider suspending the physician’s license of Dr. Carl Schiano, an osteopath who unexpectedly closed his practice in Naugatuck last year, leaving patients without their medical files or a way to contact him.
The board will discuss a summary suspension today during a 1:30 p.m. meeting at the Department of Public Health, 410 Capitol Ave.
Schiano first disappeared for two weeks last July with no notice to his patients, leaving his office locked and vacant, and the phone line disconnected.
When he came back, he said he was on vacation. He then closed his practice in September, again without notifying patients as required by law.
