NAUGATUCK — Borough police are investigating a report of an armed robbery in the Mountview Plaza.
A 27-year-old man reported to police that he was walking through the plaza near the tanning salon Friday afternoon when was approached by a man who demanded money from him. The victim didn’t have any money and the suspect stole the man’s cell phone and fled the scene on foot towards the entrance of the plaza. The suspect displayed a hand gun during the robbery police said. No one was injured.
A police K-9 was used in an attempt to locate the suspect but no leads came from the search, police said.
Police responded to the scene at about 1:40 p.m. Due to the plaza being near Naugatuck High School, the school was placed in lockdown. According to a notice issued by school officials, the lockdown was lifted at 2:15 p.m. There was never any internal threat present to students or staff, according to the notice.
The suspect was described as a black male in his early 20s, dressed all in black, and wearing a grey “dew rag.”
