PROSPECT — Long River Middle School was among 18 schools added to Connecticut’s State Personnel Development Grant program.

The grant program facilitates the statewide implementation of Scientific Research-Based Interventions. With the 18 additional schools, the program has now expanded to 65 schools.

“We are very excited to see the expansion of grant work across several districts in the state,” said Michelle LeBrun-Griffin, Connecticut’s SPDG coordinator and a consultant at the State Education Resource Center, in a press release.

SERC manages the statewide system developed through the grant program for the state Department of Education. Schools are expected to implement a comprehensive approach to SRBI by the third year of their participation.

The current SPDG was launched in 2011 under a $4.6 million federal grant.

Long River is the second school in Region 16, which includes Beacon Falls and Prospect, to be included in the program. Laurel Ledge School in Beacon Falls was among the first schools in the program and one of two schools selected for Recognition of Excellence awards in their second year.

The resource center is hosting an information session on the program Jan. 31 in the SERC Library Community Room, 25 Industrial Park Road, Middletown. For more information, or to sign up to attend, contact Monique Coleman at coleman@ctserc.org or (860) 632-1485, ext. 282. Preregistration is required.
