NAUGATUCK — Literacy Volunteers of Greater Waterbury is in need of adult tutors to teach English literacy skills to local adults.

The group is seeking adults with a high school diploma or equivalent, excellent oral and written English skills, and an email address. Formal teaching experience is not necessary. Tutors will be provided training and support, and will tutor a minimum of one-and-half hours per week for one year.

Tutors help adult learners to achieve functional life and work goals, including reading to their children, filling out job applications, progressing toward a high school diploma and passing the U.S. citizenship test.

An orientation session for interested tutors will be held on Jan. 3 from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. at the Whittemore Library, 243 Church St. To register for the session or for more information, call 203-754-1164 or email Vanessa Vowe at vvowe@waterburyct.org.
