Lions Club starts campaign to help families

BEACON FALLS — The Beacon Falls Lions Club is collecting food and goods to help people in need.

Lions Club President Bill Mis said four the past five years the club has set aside money to help local families in need during Christmas time. This year, Mis invited Officer Caroline O’Bar to speak at a meeting about families in need.

“I was shocked when she said there were 55 households in our town right now that need help,” Mis said.

Mis said the club decided to begin the “Families in Need” campaign to help out those who needed it the most.

O’Bar provided the club with a list of items that people need the most. The list includes paper towels, toilet paper, liquid laundry detergent, liquid dish soap and shaving cream. It also included food items such as yogurt, eggs, granola bars and jarred pasta sauce.

Mis said he placed drop boxes to collect items with full lists of what families need at the Beacon Falls Pharmacy, Beacon Falls Pizza and New Harvest Restaurant. In addition the Lions Club will be at New Harvest on Saturday night to collect money.

Mis said people can also sends donations to the Lions Club, P.O. Box 89, Beacon Falls, CT 06403. Mis said to mark checks for “Families in Need” in the memo.

“We always forget it’s not just at Christmas time that people need help,” Mis said.
