PROSPECT — The Prospect Library won a sponsorship grant for its Memoir Writing Series Workshop for 2013-14.

The library received one of several LifeLong Libraries Sponsorship Grants available to public libraries in the amount of $2,000 in June. The grant was awarded through the Connecticut Community Foundation.

“We were hoping we could get a grant so that we would be able to continue this very popular series,” said Lisa Murno, assistant library director, in a press release. “We would have a very disappointed group of eager and able writers, otherwise.”

The workshops with Louise MacCormack are offered two days per month for each class for ten months. The next series begins Sept. 13 and Sept. 14.

New members will learn the techniques of “free writing” to writing prompts alongside veteran members. In addition to learning about writing, small workshops on topics related to aging will be offered.

As a result of the grant, the library is able to offer three workshop classes this year: Friday mornings, Friday afternoons and Saturday mornings.

“Current openings exist in both the Friday and Saturday morning classes, but they will go quickly as people hear about our popular series,” Murno said.

The additional class is being held in collaboration with the Prospect Senior Center on Friday afternoons for senior center members. Members can contact Director Lucy Smegielski to register and to check availability.
