Letter: Lack of respect shown

To the editor,

On Tuesday, June 10, 2014 I drove by the United States Post Office on Water Street. I saw the most offensive site. Two men were standing in a make-shift shanty, promoting anti-Obama propaganda. I understand and support freedom of speech, protected by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

What I don’t understand is peoples’ lack of respect for the Office of the Presidency. President Obama was re-elected as the 44th President of the United States in a fair and equitable election of the people. The fact that individuals continue to slander President Obama is incorrigible.

Would a candidate who made the infamous “47 percent” quote, writing off nearly most of the population of Naugatuck, have been a better choice? Personally, I don’t think this is what President Lincoln meant in his famously quoted Gettysburg Address. “…A Government for the people, by the people…”

As Flag Day [June 14] approaches please take the time to honor our flag, our elected officials and most importantly our Armed Service men and women.

Jacquelyn Stuart
