To the editor,

During the past six years, Region 16 has made great strides in improving educational programing for our students; in large part due to the tireless efforts of Bob Hiscox and Nazih Noujaim.

Prospect elementary level students enjoy a new state of the art elementary school. Laurel Ledge in Beacon Falls has been fully renovated. We have a new district office to serve the public, and upgrades in facilities have been completed at Long River and Woodland. All completed on time and under budget. Initial plans to air condition Woodland are being finalized. Our middle and high school students are connected worldwide with new devices, and elementary students share a near 2-to-1 ratio to computers. Our budgets and taxes have enjoyed minimal increases, while test scores rise and student participation in new and exciting educational opportunities has increased.

In large part due to Hiscox’s and Noujaim’s efforts, regional curriculum is aligned K-12, student transitions from level to level have become easier, and student learning has increased. Bob and Nazih have made sure that the budgetary process has had multiple opportunities for public input, and all expenditures have been made more transparent than ever. The town now owns the former Community School, which we can all use as a multi-use community center. Our tax dollars have been carefully cared for and well spent, to insure the best value for each.

In short, Hiscox and Noujaim have earned another term on the Board of Education, and we can be proud of the work they have done.

Moving forward, there is always work to be done, and in light of the state’s fiscal problems Bob and Nazih are the best people to have in place to insure that whatever happens will be in the best interest of our students and the taxpayers of Prospect. I encourage voters to vote for both Robert Hiscox and Nazih Noujaim for the Board of Education.
