Letter: Gun club is best kept secret

To the editor,

Calling all Prospect residents. The club is looking for men and women that are interested in joining Prospect’s best kept secret.

Did you know that Prospect has a gun club? Did you know that we have a 100-yard range with about 15 stalls that allow for pistol and rifle shooting? Did you know that the club has a clay pigeon thrower for shotgun sport shooting? Did you know that Prospect hosts numerous member events such as pistol and rifle shooting competitions? Kids and adults. Did you know that PGC hosts other events such as the annual game dinner in February, a public Ham and Turkey Shoot, which consists of shooting shotguns at targets. Closest shot to the center wins points toward a ham or turkey from Oliver’s. There is also a pig roast, which just so happens to be coming Aug. 23 at the VFW. The club has plenty of activities to enjoy. Consider joining.

I would like to speak to all the readers of this article that are non-Prospect residents. Unfortunately we are nearing max capacity for our out-of-town members. We have applications from non-Prospect residents that have been waiting for years. Our current estimated wait time for non-residents is four to five years depending where the applicant stands on the wait list. Until we induct more Prospect residents the wait time will unfortunately remain.

We just had our daughter/family day shooting event. It was terrific. About 40 people showed. We had a great turnout. There were many first-time shooters of all ages. We had pistol, rifle, shotgun events going on all day. Ray Barquin, our ex-range officer, put on a fun event. Jim Zaiko cooked up a storm for the members and their guests. We had lots of fun.

PGC’s August events. Open to everyone the Annual Summer BBQ Saturday, Aug. 23 held at the VFW Pavallion, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. $25 for advance ticket purchases, $30 at the door. Kids under 12 are free. It is sponsored by the Prospect Gun Club, Prospect VFW and Prospect Men’s Auxiliary. There will be lots of food and entertainment. Tickets can be purchased in advance at the VFW or through the club. If interested in tickets feel free to contact me at prospectgunpresident@gmail.com, Clayton at (203) 982-3362 or VFW at (203) 758-4763.

PGC members; reminder, the Strachan shoot is coming up on Aug. 9 at noon. Set aside some time that day and come join the festivities.

I also wanted to let club members know that I frequently send emails out to you. If you haven’t received an email from me, most likely I do not have your address. I am going by what is on the membership list. If you want emails sent to you please contact me at prospectgunpresident@gmail.com and I will gladly add you to my list.
The next Gun Club meeting is Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. at the VFW.
