To the editor,
It is time again for the American Legion Auxiliary Ninth Annual Valentine Dinner Dance which will be held on Valentine’s Day, Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015. Many people attend each year from Prospect, Naugatuck, Cheshire, Waterbury and surrounding towns and as far away as Berlin. The dance is well known and everyone has a great time and while raising funds to support our two projects.
From the funds we have raised from our dinner dance we’ve had the opportunity to grant wishes for hospice patients. Some wishes we supported were a trip to Mohegan Sun with overnight stay and dinner for the veteran and his family, a concert at the VA by a string group from Yale School of Music, a trip for a veteran with his 12-year-old daughter to Dude Ranch in Vermont and a trip by limo to a Yankees game for a veteran and his daughter. Other wishes we organized were a trip to the White House, a small private family wedding reception and a final trip home to Alabama. Unfortunately, these veterans physically did not make the trips, but they passed anticipating the upcoming trip or event.
Over the past nine years we have also provided over 100 “Baskets for the Homeless” for recovering veterans finally moving into apartments and rejoining society. We provide their basic needs to set up house, items such as dishes, pots and pans, sheets, pillows, towels, shower curtain, food and many other items. We cannot support our projects without your support and the support of the community.
How often do you have the opportunity to have a fun evening of dinner out and dancing and still support the forgotten Veterans, terminally ill or homeless, who gave so much for our country? One hundred percent of the profits earned go to our veterans. Please join us on Valentine’s Day, Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, 7 p.m. at the Crystal Room in Naugatuck for a four-course family style dinner, beer, wine and soft drinks included. Dancing to the music by the Mark Fusco Trio. Tickets are $50 per person. Please contact Carol, (203) 687-7138 or Diane, (203) 592-2195 for tickets.
