HARTFORD — The House GOP leadership last week announced committee assignments and appointments to caucus posts on the eve of the opening of the legislature’s 2017 session.

State Rep. Rosa Rebimbas, R-Naugatuck, is returning as the ranking House Republican on the Judiciary Committee. She is also being promoted to a caucus whip. She had been an assistant minority leader.

“I am honored [House Republican Leader Themis] Klarides entrusted me with another important role within the leadership of the caucus, and I look forward to once again working across the aisle to help the people of Naugatuck and the state to bring the budget under control and preserve vital services for the most needy residents,” Rebimbas said in a statement.

State Rep. Lezlye Zupkus, R-Prospect, is being reassigned as the ranking House member on the Committee on Children. She had been ranking member for the Public Safety and Security Committee.

Zupkus is also being named as deputy chair of the House Republican caucus, and she is being appointed to a nine-member caucus committee that screens legislation.

“We will face many challenges this legislative session but we have the opportunity to make significant long-term changes that will help set Connecticut on a new course towards sustainability,” Zupkus said in a statement. “In order to accomplish great things this session both parties must work together and I believe we can find common ground.”

State Rep. David Labriola, R-Oxford, is returning as a caucus whip and will serve on the Government Administration and Elections, Judiciary and Transportation committees.

“I look forward to a productive session where the most important issues facing the state can be addressed in a responsible manner,” Labriola said in a statement. “I appreciate the opportunity to continue representing the people of Naugatuck, Oxford and Southbury.”
