NAUGATUCK — Republican David Labriola’s road to a seventh term in the state House of Representatives looks to be unimpeded.

Labriola was recently endorsed to run for re-election in the 131st District, which covers Oxford and portions of Naugatuck and Southbury.

Labriola, a 53-year-old Naugatuck native, was first elected as representative for the 131st District in 2002. Currently, he serves on the General Assembly’s transportation, government administration and elections and judiciary committees.

Labriola, an Oxford resident, also serves as the Republican whip for the House.

For Labriola, serving the public is more than a job, it is a family tradition. Labriola’s father Gerald Labriola, Sr., served as a state representative.

“My parents stressed the importance of public service to me at an early age. So my favorite part of the job is constituent service, helping people cut through red tape of state government’s bureaucracy,” Labriola said.

The path to another term might be an easy one for Labriola. The Democrats did not endorse any candidate to run against him, and no independent candidates have petitioned their way onto the ballot so far. A challenger can still petition to get on the ballot and run against Labriola.

Labriola graduated from Naugatuck High School in 1978. After high school, Labriola went on to graduate from Yale University and earn a law degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law. He practices law with his brother, Gerald Labriola, Jr., out of a law firm in Naugatuck.

If Labriola gets another term in office, he said one of his top priorities will be to bring more businesses into the state.

“I intend to partner with a new Republican governor to create a business-friendly environment to promote economic growth and reduce tax burden on citizens,” Labriola said.

Election Day is Nov. 4.
