NAUGATUCK — Republican state Rep. David Labriola in May received the GOP’s endorsement for a tenth term representing the 131st House District.

“Public service was instilled in me by my parents and severing the people of this community is the great privilege of my life,” Labriola said.

Labriola, a 59-year-old Oxford resident and Naugatuck native, was first elected to represent the district in 2002. The district covers Oxford and portions of Naugatuck and Southbury.

Labriola, who serves on the Government Administration and Elections, Transportation and Judiciary committees, said he will keep championing a common-sense approach in Hartford.

“I will continue to advocate strongly for common sense solutions to the complex problems we face,” Labriola said.

Local Democratic party leaders said Democrats did not endorse a candidate to run against Labriola.

Labriola, who has a bachelor’s degree in economics and politics from Yale University and finished his studies at the University of Connecticut School of Law, is a criminal law attorney. He practices law with his older brother, Jerry Labriola Jr., at the firm Labriola & Labriola in Naugatuck. He has been an attorney for 34 years, including 27 years at his firm.

In the 1990s, Labriola served on the Naugatuck Republican Town Committee, including as chairman, on the Naugatuck Police Commission, and was the borough attorney before becoming a state representative.

Labriola is married to his wife, Joanna, and has one son, a stepdaughter, stepson and four grandchildren.
