SEYMOUR — Republican State Rep. Nicole Klarides-Ditria, 51, of Seymour, won her third term in the State House by defeating Democratic challenger Christopher Bowen in the 105th District.

While vote totals were not available Tuesday night, officials estimated that Klarides-Ditria led Bowen by a 2-to-1 margin in early counting. Bowen conceded the election shortly after the 8 p.m. closing of polls.

“I am elated that the people of the 105th have faith in me and put me back in Hartford to help them,” Klarides-Ditria said.

The district covers Beacon Falls, Seymour and part of Derby.

She said one priority will be getting a long-promised proposed fire training school built in Beacon Falls.

Bowen, 40, a cellular engineer, is in his first term on the Seymour Board of Selectmen.

“I congratulate Nicole on her win and hope she can keep the focus on ways to revitalize the Valley economy,” he said.

Klarides-Ditria said the state needs property tax reform to help municipalities and taxpayers. The state also has to streamline the process of doing business in Connecticut, she said.

“We have a lot of unfunded mandates for our municipalities, for our town and cities,” Klarides-Ditria said. “If we can work with our municipal leaders and find ways to help them save, that would be one option.”

Klarides-Ditria earned her first term in 2016 by defeating then-incumbent Democrat Theresa Conroy. She is an athletic trainer at Lauralton Hall High School in Milford. In addition, Klarides-Ditria is involved in the day-to-day operations of her family’s business, Klarides Family Associates.
