NAUGATUCK — State police are still investigating the cause of an incident Sunday on Route 8 in which a Derby woman was ejected from the passenger seat of a car.

Police are still unable to say how Glenda Rivera, 35, of 16 Cottage St., came to leave the 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe K1 driven by 40-year-old Gerald Nelson of the same address. Nelson was driving southbound on Route 8 in the left lane approaching Exit 25 when Rivera was pushed from the car, jumped or fell shortly before 7 p.m.

Rivera was taken to Waterbury Hospital with severe head injuries and was listed Sunday in critical condition. Waterbury Hospital spokesman Matt Burgard said she was later taken to Yale-New Haven hospital, where her condition was not released.

Anyone with information is asked to call Troop I in Bethany at (203) 393-4200.
