NAUGATUCK — Two former borough principals will serve in interim roles at City Hill Middle School while officials conduct a search for the next leader of the school.

City Hill Middle School Principal Brian Hendrickson tendered his resignation last week to take the assistant superintendent of schools job in the Suffield public school district.

Naugatuck Superintendent of Schools Sharon Locke said this week that Hendrickson’s last day as principal is Friday.

Brian Sullivan will serve as interim principal at City Hill for September, Locke said. Sullivan was the principal of Hillside Intermediate School from 1993 until his retirement in 2010.

Fran Serratore will take over as interim principal in October, Locke said. Serratore was previously the principal of the middle school for 15 years and principal of Naugatuck High School for four years until his retirement in 2011.

The district is currently seeking City Hill’s next principal. The job posting will close on Sept. 11 and the district will interview candidates the last two weeks of September, Locke said. She said the district plans to host focus groups for parents and teachers to give their input about what type of characteristics they would like to see in the next principal.

Hendrickson, 40, has worked as a Naugatuck public school administrator for seven years. He was hired as an administrative intern at Maple Hill Elementary School in 2008 and became principal at Hop Brook Elementary School two years later. He took the helm at City Hill, the borough’s lone middle school for students in grades seven and eight, in 2012.

He was paid $137,876 a year to lead the 680-student school.
