HARTFORD — State representatives Rosa Rebimbas (R-70) and Deputy Speaker Elizabeth Ritter (D-38) recently joined “Then and Now” host and former Speaker of the House of Representatives James Amann for a special AccessTV.org report on the issue of human and sex trafficking.

The legislators, who helped spearhead a bipartisan effort to protect victims of human and sex trafficking by championing a bill during the 2013 legislative session which strengthens penalties on violators, discussed how that law impacts violators and helps protect victims, according to a press release.

“Last session we were able to come together on a bipartisan basis and pass a law that helps protect innocent victims of human and sex trafficking while also strongly penalizing those who commit such offensive acts,” said Rebimbas, a ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, in the release. “These stronger laws, together with increased police and public awareness and criminal prosecution of offenders, send a clear message that Connecticut is no longer open for these types of criminal enterprises.”
