Russo inducted into math honor society
EASTON, Mass. — Naugatuck resident Morgan Russo, a member of the Stonehill College Class of 2014, was recently inducted into the Kappa Mu Epsilon Honor Society.
Kappa Mu Epsilon was founded in 1931 to promote excellence in the study of mathematics. Today, the society has chapters at 150 chapters in 35 states.
Patrizi inducted into health and physical ed honor society
WILLIMANTIC — Jessica Patrizi, of Beacon Falls, was inducted into Eastern Connecticut State University’s Alpha Epsilon Chi Health and Physical Education Honor Society. Patrizi is a sport and leisure management major.
Renna inducted into honor societies
EASTON, Mass. — Prospect resident Michelle Renna, a member of the Stonehill College Class of 2014, was recently inducted into the Alpha Kappa Delta Honor Society.
Alpha Kappa Delta was founded in 1920 at the University of Southern California and is now the world’s largest sociology honor society.
Renna was also inducted into the Stonehill College’s Honor Society Lambda Epsilon Sigma. Renna maintained a 3.5 cumulative grade point average.
Acceptance into the society is based on evidence of academic achievement, of a pursuit of learning that extends beyond the classroom environment and of an ability to communicate effectively through writing.
Witkoski inducted into history honor society
WILLIMANTIC — Lindsay Witkoski of Naugatuck was recently inducted into Eastern Connecticut State University’s Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society. Witkoski is a history/American studies major.
The society recognizes students who have completed a minimum of 12 semester hours in history, have a minimum GPA of 3.1 in history, a cumulative GPA of 3.0; and are in the top 35 percent of their class.
Magner inducted in math honor society
WILLIMANTIC — Richard Magner of Beacon Falls was inducted into Eastern Connecticut State University’s Kappa Mu Epsilon Mathematics Honor Society.
Magner’s major is mathematics. The society recognizes students who have a 3.0 GPA; a B or better in each of the abstract algebra and real analysis I courses; at least a B+ average in higher level mathematics courses; and a junior or senior class standing.
Local residents inducted into Phi Kappa Phi
BATON ROUGE, La. — Naugatuck residents Thomas Deitelbaum and Michael Luchene along with Courtney Palmieri of Prospect recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.
All three were initiated at the University of Bridgeport
Membership into Phi Kappa Phi is by invitation and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors, having at least 72 semester hours, are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff, and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.
