Honor society hosting ‘Empty Bowls’

BEACON FALLS — The Woodland Regional High School’s National Honor Society is working to raise awareness for the issue of hunger.

The society will host Empty Bowls March 19 at the school, 135 Back Rimmon Road, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The event an international initiative intended to draw attention to the issue of hunger.

For a $10 donation, people will get a bowl of soup and a roll, which are intended to symbolize the lack of food many people suffer daily. The soup and roll will be made by the culinary department.

Participants will also get a ceramic bowl of their choice, many of which have been made in the school’s ceramics classes, to keep.

The money raised from the event will benefit the St. Vincent DePaul Soup Kitchen in Waterbury. Tickets will be available at the door. Tickets are also available in advance at the school or by emailing Gail Pells at gpells@region16ct.org.
