NAUGATUCK – The Board of Mayor and Burgesses will hold a hearing tonight on proposed changes to the borough Charter.
The hearing will begin at 6 p.m. in the Hall of Burgesses on the fourth floor of Town Hall, 229 Church St.
Board members will hear questions and comments regarding the charter revision commission’s draft report, which proposes elections be moved to May, the mayor serve for four years, and the borough hire, rather than elect, the tax collector and town clerk.
The commission also recommended voters be allowed to chose nine burgesses, the positions of selectmen and treasurer be eliminated, strike outdated sections from the charter, and create a separate ordinance for bidding that would be easy to change.
The Borough Board is also scheduled to discuss the draft report following the hearing.
