HARTFORD — State Sen. Joan Hartley (D-Waterbury) received the Connecticut Water Works Association’s (CWWA) Legislator of the Year Award.
“Sen. Hartley has demonstrated a deep commitment to public health, safety and environmental protection,” said Maureen Westbrook of The Connecticut Water Company and a CWWA legislative committee officer in a news release. “As the past chair of the legislature’s Regulations Review Committee, Sen. Hartley played a leadership role in balancing the competing interests of various stakeholders to help negotiate reasonable stream flow regulations to protect both our rivers and streams and the public health and safety of our citizens,” Westbrook said.
The CWWA is an association of public water supply utilities that promotes state policies that assure reliable, high quality water supplies to protect the public health and safety.
“Sen. Hartley’s efforts were critical to getting people back to the table to negotiate more workable, balanced stream flow regulations. Due to her hard work, Connecticut can now move forward with reasonable policies affecting rivers and streams that balance the state’s public health and welfare with the need to protect our environment and aquatic life,” said Tom West of Southington Water and a CWWA legislative committee officer in a prepared release.
The award was presented at CWWA’s Annual Fall Meeting on Oct. 21.
