HARTFORD — State Sen. Joan Hartley (D-15) participated in a panel discussion at a leadership conference hosted by the Yale University’s Women’s Leadership Institute earlier this month.

Hartley was chosen by the institute to participate.  The conference’s theme was “Gaining the Edge: Leveraging Women’s Competitive Strengths.”

“The Women’s Leadership Institute at Yale has earned a stellar reputation for promoting public service and women’s participation in government and this year’s conference is simply more evidence to suggest how and why it has that reputation,” Hartley said in a prepared release.

According to a release issued by her office, Hartley was among several women who took part in a discussion about women in politics and government.

“It was an honor to participate in the Women’s Leadership Institute’s conference this year and I am grateful for the chance I had to connect with young, aspiring women who will be the future policy makers and leaders in government,” Hartley said in a prepared statement. “I believe strongly in the concept of mentoring — this conference was a perfect example of how experience and lessons learned over time can benefit those who will follow that example.”
