Halloween activities fill the weekend

The Naugatuck Park and Recreation Department’s annual Children’s Halloween Village opens Friday.

The village, located at the department at 258 Rubber Ave., will be open through Oct. 30 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Children can have their pictures taken with Halloween characters for $5 or parents can bring their own camera. Hot and cold beverages will be available.

Admission to the village is free, but donations will also be accepted. Guests are asked to bring a non-perishable food donation for the food bank. Guests are asked to park at the Peter J. Foley Little League on Andrew Avenue. Only handicapped parking will be allowed at the park department. For more information, call public works at (203) 720-7071.

On Saturday a Trick or Treat Street will be held at Woodland Regional High School in Beacon Falls.

The event, which is sponsored by the Woodland Regional Student Council, is open to for children from Region 16 who are 10 years old and younger. The event will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and can trick or treat from classroom to classroom in the school.

This weekend also features the return of the annual haunted hayride at Matthies Park in Beacon Falls sponsored by the Beacon Falls Rotary Club.

The hayride will be open from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday and from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on Sunday. A Halloween costume contest for children will also be held Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12 years old.
