SEYMOUR — Len Greene Jr. announced today that he would seek the Republican nomination to run for state representative in the 105th House District this November.

The district represents Beacon Falls, Seymour and Derby. Greene represented the district from 2011 to 2013. He lost his re-election bid to Democrat Theresa Conroy in 2012.

Greene cited the state of Connecticut’s economy and its lackluster job growth over the past several years as the reason for entering the race.

“After careful consideration, with the full support of my family, I’ve decided to seek the Republican nomination for state representative. Over the past year I’ve heard from countless supporters who have urged me to run again and bring some sanity back to Hartford,” Greene said in a press release.

Greene said the Democratic legislature has taxed and spent the state into exhaustion, so much so that 49 percent of state residents recently said in a Gall up poll that they would move out if they could.

“I believe that Connecticut can do much better, and my record shows that I’ve fought for fiscal responsibility over the past six years on both the local and state levels. We need to bring the cost of living and doing business back down to earth to see true job growth here in Connecticut” Greene stated in the release.

In addition to entering the race, Greene announced that Richard Demko, who had been seeking the Republican nod, was withdrawing from the race and supporting him for the nomination.

Demko stated in the release, “The best way to get Connecticut back on track is to defeat the Democratic incumbent, who has consistently voted to increase taxes, spending, and borrowing while in office. In order to do that and to maintain a united front in the Republican Party, I’ve decided to withdraw from the race and support Len Greene for state representative.”

The Republican convention is Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Seymour Community Center. Greene currently lives in Seymour with his wife, Tory, and daughter, Jillian.
